Second, you want to help search engines understand your website. If you use too few keywords, search engines won’t be able to figure out what your site is about.

Google’s John Mueller answers an SEO question about how to use keywords for SEO in your content. Things like how often to use keywords on a page and the value of words mapping to the topic.

And also with regards to the individual keywords, I think that’s something where I wouldn’t disregard it completely but at the same time, I wouldn’t over-focus on exact keywords.

So in particular, things like singular and plural or kind of like the different ways of writing individual words. That’s something that you probably don’t need to worry about.

But mentioning what your site is about and kind of like what you want to be found for, that’s something I would still do.

Avoid Using Too Many Keywords at Once

You can use up to 30 different keywords in one article. However, using more than five will likely cause your post to be flagged by Google.

Keyword stuffing is when you use multiple words that all relate to the same topic. Search engines frown upon this practice because it makes your site look spammy. It also decreases the chances that people will click on your links.

If you use exact match domains (EMDs) in your articles, ensure you only do so once per domain. EMDs are domains that are very similar to each other. They’re usually related to the same industry, such as “healthcare.com” or “retail.com.” Using an EMD too frequently can lead to penalties.

Use Long-Tail Keywords

If you decide to use keywords in your title or description, ensure you use long-tail keywords. These are more specific terms than broad-match keywords. They’re usually longer and less common.
